Our fabrication department is responsible for any special component fabrication for the racing industry as well as making some of those parts that are no longer available for the restoration projects. This area of the shop is used extensively to repair parts rather than replacing them in order to maintain the original part.

jig or fixture is made in order to reproduce the part or parts accurately. We are experienced in fabricating and welding with mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, 4130 (ChromeMoly), and other metals.   Here a wishbone is being stress relieved before removing it from the jig.

Special camera mounts had to be designed and built to hold the 60 pound IMAX camera used to film the IMAX film Super Speedway  This was the first time a camera of this size and weight had been mounted on an Indy Car that was capable of speeds approaching 230 mph. Four different positions were needed on the 1994 Lola along with a specially designed gimbal mount for accurate camera positioning.

BMW Motorcycle

Since the closing of the BMW Motorcycle dealer in South Bend, Indiana we have taken over the basic services that were offered there. Our Certified Technicians will be specializing in K-Bikes, Airheads, and Oilheads.  Unfortunately, we are not able to offer warranty service on new BMW bikes.     We feel that this addition to the service we offer presently enhances our image of quality service to the motorsports enthusiast.
Kurt Przybysz, service manager and mechanic from the dealership, will be heading-up our new service department so the service you have enjoyed in the past will continue.  Kurt would like to invite you to stop by and see our facility.  Kurt will be ably assisted by Ken Cornelis.

SURREY MOTORSPORTS’ main business has been vintage auto restoration, therefore, we will also be offering BMW bike restoration for those of you with vintage bikes.

Many of the older cars have wooden coachwork under the steel or aluminum skin, and this wood reconstruction is carried out with a craftsman’s touch. Even wooden steering wheels for our restorations can be made to original specs in our shop by craftsmen skilled in woodworking.

Alec Greaves, former McLaren fabricatorAlec Greaves, former McLaren fabricator of the successful Can-Am cars, is the only ex-McLaren team member in the US operating an independent shop. His knowledge of the old McLarens is invaluable to you if you need one restored. Many collectors seek his advice, and we end up doing the work for them.

Progress reports are sent with each invoice and photos so you can track your restoration. An agreement is signed so there is no misunderstanding as to what is to be done, and a dollar limit is put on purchases that can be made without your approval. If there are any changes made to the scope of the restoration during the project it will be agreed in writing by both of us. We have found this to eliminate “I thought you said” problems. You are encouraged to stop by at any time to check the progress on your car.

Barry Seat Cover & Auto Glass Co., Inc. handles our upholstery needs. Their knowledge of period materials and installation methods comes from being in business since 1945. If all you need is refurbished upholstery, call Gary or Greg at 574-288-4603.

Greg is shown installing carpeting and rubber floor mats in a 1956 Arnolt Bristol, and Gary is cutting and sewing fabric for another car.

Surrey Motorsport

We offer quality restoration of your British and Select European Automobiles and Race Cars for show or driving pleasure.

The restoration of your car is more than removing rust and repainting. If it is to be a ground-up restoration it is the systematic disassembly of the entire vehicle, photographing and logging of all parts as they come off, reconditioning of these parts, replacing unusable ones (and in some cases fabricating new parts), rebuilding the engine and other mechanical parts, and the complete re-assembly in as-new condition.
